Joanne Miller is an artist, photographer, and educator. “Living on the Edge”, her long-term series began while living in a houseboat on an estuary of the Potomac River, ten miles from the U.S. Capital. Miller’s photographs of wild animals living in urban landscapes reveal a deeper narrative about our inner nature and outer world. Our wellbeing is intimately connected to the natural world. We are part of nature’s interdependent relationships.
Miller’s photographs have been exhibited and collected nationally including the Center for Creative Photography at the University of Arizona, Tucson. Her work has appeared in the Washington Post and featured on WUSA, CBS. A frequent educator and lecturer, she has taught at the National Portrait Gallery and presented on Creativity and the Next Generation, The Imagination Toolbox to arts educators at the Walters Art Museum, Baltimore.
For more than a decade, she has developed and taught over 150 artist residencies, receiving grants and funding from community partners in the arts, environment, health care, museum, government, corporate, and non-profit sectors. Guiding thousands of students to experience the wonder of nature through creative expression, they discover their personal voice. Certified in arts integration and STEAM, she is listed on the Teaching Artist Roster of the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County in Maryland.
